⚫️ For our experienced lawyer followers, remember when you first started out in practice? If you hadn’t worked in the industry before, it would have likely been a pretty confronting experience and possibly quite different to what you thought it would be (and definitely different to uni!)
⚫️ For new law students, we bet you’re itching to see how it all works in practice and start getting into the right headspace for your career in practice.
⚫️ For grads and new lawyers, imagine you had someone alongside (independent of your work) that you could reach out to for anything and everything; a group just like you and some others that have been there before that can share some wisdom.

Squad Event: Word processing tips and tricks every lawyer should know
*Squad Members Only*
Every new lawyer has to embark on the unknown of legal word processing. If you haven’t yet, you’re probably wondering what’s would be so important about typing in law. Well, it’s a lot more than that.
In this workshop, we’ll work through some basic necessities of word processing in law including things like tracking changes, cross-referencing, tables, formatting, numbering conventions, styles and version control.
New lawyers specifically can’t rely on secretarial support but for those that have secretaries, sometimes they could be away and something urgent comes up or you may just want to fix something while you’re in your document. Having the skills to fix word processing dilemmas is a brilliant tool to have in your arsenal!
Whether it is the beginning of the year, mid year or the end of the year, always bring yourself back to the basics. Sometimes we need a little nudge to get things going again and that is completely ok.
Having a support system that is right for you can help you navigate through areas that are requiring your attention right now.

Lawyers, let's talk about the elephant in the room….Costs!
Most clients expect to pay something when they walk through your door or pick up the phone, so it is important that you spend the time to put in place structures or guides for yourself and your staff to manage the topic of talking costs with your clients (or potential clients).
Today, Michele discussed several great tips on how to manage the conversations with clients:
👉Have a bring up system to review your WIP to give you the best chance of managing your client's costs
👉 Incorporate a good procedure or process for talking costs with your client (or potential client)
👉 Talk to the client about how your firm prices (i.e. whether you do fixed fee or time costing)
👉 If you are a junior or early career lawyer, talk to your supervisor/boss – this shows initiative that you are managing your files, being accountable and managing things the best you can.
👉 Process is everything!
To all our Squad Members – the Squad Events are recorded so you can view them at a time that is convenient for you.
